_Driller_ aka _Space Station Oblivion_ (in the US), the FIRST supported game of the [Freescape engine](https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Freescape), is ready for public testing!

Published in 1987 by Incentive Software Limited, this revolutionary new engine allowed players to explore a solid 3D graphic environment with complete freedom of movement for the very first time in videogame history.

A new threat emerges after humanity abandoned a dying Earth to establish a new home on planet Evath. Evath's moon Mitral has turned into a gigantic gas time bomb. A meteor is also due to impact Mitral in the next several hours. You were chosen to secure each of Mitral's 18 sectors by positioning a drilling rig over the gas pockets in each sector before the meteor strikes.

Solve challenging riddles by relying on geological clues, intuition, or good old trial and error. To survive your mission, find Rubicon crystals to restore energy and destroy (or avoid) the Laser Beacons and Skanners left behind by the Ketars. Good luck!

Our reimplemented engine features graphics using software (TinyGL) or hardware mode (OpenGL) at arbitrary resolution. The initial _Driller_ support is limited to DOS (EGA mode), Amiga and AtariST releases, but we hope to be able to add more soon! Prepare yourself for a perilous adventure as you lower the drawbridge to enter the Castle Master’s domain. Released in 1990 by Incentive Software, Castle Master became popular for its technical innovation and challenging gameplay. The game inspired countless 3D adventure titles, and the Freescape engine itself marked a technological milestone, enabling groundbreaking object interaction and spatial puzzles.

Notably, Castle Master was one of the first games to let you choose to play as either a prince or a princess, offering a different experience depending on your choice.

Your mission: rescue your twin, imprisoned within the eerie depths of Castle Eternity by the evil Magister. This sprawling, foreboding castle is filled with traps, monsters, and puzzles blocking your path. Gather items, unlock doors, and solve complex riddles as you navigate the labyrinthine halls and confront the dark forces within.

This modern reimplementation showcases enhanced graphics using OpenGL, with initial support for the DOS and ZX Spectrum releases. After seven months of intense work, we are ready to announce support for a few games based on qdEngine, developed by K-D Labs.

The work is based on the original sources published now under GPL, although the work started a bit earlier than that. The engine supports 14 games, five of which we are announcing support for. Most of these games were released in Russian; however, there were Lithuanian, Czech, and Polish releases. The support is announced for:

* _Wait for it! Issue 3. Song for a Hare_, (Russian: _Ну, погоди! Выпуск 3. Песня для зайца_, Lithuanian: _Na, palauk! Zuikio dainos_, Czech: _Jen počkej a Píseň pro zajíce_)
* _Mask Show_ (Russian: _Маски-шоу_)
* _Marvellous Mice Adventures: Meeting Sea Rat_ (Russian: _Три маленькие белые мышки. Визит Морской крысы_, Czech: _Příběhy myší rodinky I_, Polish: _Były Sobie Myszki Trzy: Na Spotkanie Cioci Myszy_)
* _The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik_ (Russian: _Похождения бравого солдата Швейка_)
* _Marvellous Mice Adventures: Sea Rat's Birthday_, (Russian: _Три маленькие белые мышки. День рождения морской крысы_, Polish: _Były Sobie Myszki Trzy: Urodzinowe Śledztwo_)

Other games do work; however, we haven’t playtested them. You may find more information on [our Wiki](https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=QdEngine). Also, we are looking for the Lithuanian version of _Little Longnose_ and Polish releases of _Little Mice_ games and _Wait for it!_ game. If you happen to have a copy, please contact sev.

ScummVM Team is proud to announce support for a small freeware RPG game named <i>The Griffon Legend</i>. It was [originally](http://syn9.thehideoutgames.com/index_backup.php) written in the FreeBASIC programming language by Daniel "Syn9" Kennedy and later ported by Dmitry Smagin to the GCW0 console, which we base this port on.

The original story says:

>500 years after the Griffon-Dragon war, the Dragons have
returned to reclaim their empire. Cities are falling,
everyone is dying, and the lone Griffon Knight Fayne is
caught up in the middle of it all.

Since the game is freeware, you may grab a copy directly from our game [downloads page](https://www.scummvm.org/games/) or from the [original site](http://syn9.thehideoutgames.com/index_backup.php?table=griffonlegend). You will need the latest [development build](https://buildbot.scummvm.org/#/snapshots) to play it. **Update:** we were unable to reserve the plumbervm.org domain and thus, with a heavy heart, we decided to abandon our rebranding effort and go back to our old name. Long live ScummVM!

The issue of the name of ScummVM has been raised many times since we started to add engines for non-SCUMM games. Until now we decided to keep the original name. However, the addition today of an engine for *Plumbers Don't Wear Ties* changes everything. Due to its fame and reputation for being one of the best video game ever, it naturally becomes the flagship of what we stand for. Thus we have finally decided to change our name. We are now **PlumberVM**!

We used the name ScummVM for over 15 years, and this is with sadness that we say goodbye to it. It is a well known name and we do not underestimate the effort it will take to get the same recognition for our new name. Thus we are calling on your help to spread the news. In the short term this will inevitably lead to some disruption and confusion. But in the long term we are convinced that this is the right decision. With your support we will conquer the world! Starting from the sewers.

With the change of name we have also decided to expand even more the scope of our project. Last year we decided to accept engines for RPG games in addition to adventure games. Now we are also accepting any games that feature a plumber. Work has already started on the little known *Super Mario Bros.*, and we have big plans for the future. We will have a big announcement soon, so stay tuned.

On a final note, it will take time for us to update all the places where our name appears. We have started today with our main website and you will notice in the next few days the change spreading to our social media accounts, wiki, forum and the pages not yet updated on our web site. We are also working on releasing PlumberVM 2.0 with the addition of two new supported games: *Plumbers Don't Wear Ties* and *Full Pipe*. This will happen as soon as the last few bugs in our engines for *Plumbers Don't Wear Ties* and *Full Pipe* have been squashed. Hopefully we won't find mutant turtles during testing. Squashing those is a real pain!
